Atlantis Productions Commemorates Sondheim with A Little Night Music

Fresh from the success of Xanadu, from 1980's, Atlantis Productions steps further back on time 80 years earlier with Stephen Sondheim's masterpiece, A Little Night Music.

Inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s film Smiles of a Summer Night, A Little Night Music follows the romantic liaisons of couples. Set in Sweden in the early 20th century, a middle-aged lawyer, Fredrick (Noni Buencamino), a glamorous actress Desirée (Dawn Zulueta) and her lover, Count Malcolm, converge upon a country estate. Once there, their affairs with one another play out in a manner that is both whimsical and tragic. Fredrick is stuck in an unconsummated marriage to his young trophy wife, and when he resumes an affair with Desirée, the jealous Count Malcolm sets off a chain of events that entangles all in a complex web of romance, accompanied by Sondheim’s trademark waltz.

Considered as the most accomplished Sondheim production who is first staged in Broadway in 1973 and 6 Tony Awards including Best Musical, no wonder it continues to mesmerize theater goers for almost 601 shows and just recently received more recognition with Catherine Zeta-Jones getting Best Actress in a Musical on the Broadway revival.

L-R: Cris Villonco, Felix Rivera, Dawn Zulueta and Noni Buencamino

Following the footsteps of Zeta-Jones and all the previous actress to played Desirée and marking Ms. Dawn Zulueta's return to professional Musical Theater since playing Elsa Montes in Larawan over 10 years ago, she is now set to play one of the most iconic characters on Sondheim's universe. Joining her is an equally established name on Philippine entertainment industry, Mr. Noni Buencamino who will play the character of Fredrick and a stellar lineup of musical theater actors like Cris Villonco, Jake Macapagal, Jenny Jamora, Felix Rivera, Jay Glorioso, Raul Montesa, Teenee Chan, Agnes Barredo, Jenny Nuyda, Glen Llanes, Alys Serdenia, Crystal Paras, Bea Garcia and Anthony Tarrosa Ong.

To be Directed by Bobby Garcia (Xanadu|Cinderella|Avenue Q), he is confident enough to say that this production will be something to remember not only because of the great material but also because of having such caliber of performers like Dawn Zulueta and Noni Buencamino join the musical theater industry after a very long long time.
