Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance first Poster and Trailer Released

Columbia Pictures finally releases the official Trailer for Ghost Rider sequel titled Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.  Watch the video clip after the jump.

I've been quiet about this production for months now even though Columbia Pictures already releases some press releases about the movie because the project don't really excite me that much.  I enjoyed watching the first movie but just to the level of seeing an ordinary popcorn flick.  That movie is obviously very experimental and considered as one of Marvel's greatest failures like the Fantastic Four.  So now I'm surprise that after 5 years, they still managed to create a sequel.  A reboot could be more logical  but instead they decided to continue where they left.

But after seeing the trailer, I guess the production is stepping it up with a much darker and solid storyline.  And take note, the movie is written by David Goyer, the man behind the Blade Trilogy, The Dark Knight Saga and the upcoming Man of Steel.  I think it is a good move and now I'm excited to see how this sequel will work this time.

2012 version  - 2007 version
Seriously, 2007 execution is an obvious win.

The only thing that I like about the first movie is the execution of Ghost Rider himself which is pretty much comic accurate.  Since this sequel is going on a much darker and probably a more realistic approach, they end up simplifying most of the designs including the costume and the "Hell bike".   As you can see, the trailer show how Johnny Blaze burn his own clothes while on Ghost Rider form.  We all know that in comics, this didn't happen but I guess Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance wants to be as real as possible and though they are not saying it, I guess this is still another movie greatly influenced by Nolan's The Dark Knight saga.

Well there is nothing wrong on doing something the same way Nolan did it but sometimes there are materials better left the way they are.  Physically speaking the first movie is good.  The production design is excellent.  But the story is the one that needs work and I guess on this installment they will be getting exactly what fans want for the story.  But doing so, I hope this doesn't affect the overall aesthetics of this comic book icon.

I really hope this sequel will be much better than the first.  Let's all hope for the best.

P.S.
I'm trying to ignore that final footage on the trailer because I think it is not really what we think.  We know how scenes are edited for trailers.  They end up having different context when we see them on the actual movie so I bet that fire pee is not really a fire pee on the final movie.  But if it is indeed in the movie, I really hope it is for a good taste.
