Masterpiece Indeed but I don't Like it: Black Swan Movie Review

After being nominated on the Golden Globe and giving Natalie Portman the achievement of grabbing the best Actress award for a film, I guess I don't really need a lot of convincing that this film is worthy of my time. So when I was invited on a special screening (2 weeks before the local premiere) here in the Philippines, I quickly agreed and see the movie.

The movie is indeed a masterpiece. A work of art beyond any other films I saw in the past. Darren Aronofsky had created such an exquisite piece that stimulates his audience's senses and a cast that definitely gave a commendable performance specially Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. But beyond the mastery of this magnificent work, I still end up not liking the film itself.  Why?  For me the definition of "liking a film" is if you are willing to watch it over and over again. Black Swan is just not that film.

The movie is so dark and deep. Unlike any other psycho thrillers I saw and liked, Black Swan showed something that is so real and scary that The horrors of a confined personality gives me a very heavy chest. This is the same reason why I don't enjoy watching local Independent films. These films depresses me which I think defeats the main definition of being entertained.

But come to think of it, maybe it is the film's main purpose in the first place.

Black Swan is now showing on all Philippine cinemas. From 20th Century Fox distributed by Warner Bros.
