Philippine Idol, From ABC 5 to GMA 7

After Season 1 of Philippine Idol last year, we never heard anything about the show. No auditions. No nothing except the fact Mau Marcelo is launching a new album and Gian Magdangal is making an impression in GMA's concert TV. Lets face it. Philippine Idol could be one of those shows that are poorly executed here in the Philippines. And according to rumors, Philippine Idol is the reason for the slow downfall of ABC 5 because of its expensive franchise.

But I just got the buzz that Philippine Idol will launch its second season. Fremantle Media, Philippine Idol's License holder had decided to switch networks. And the winner, GMA Network Incorporated.

“Philippine Idol’s” season 2 will be aired on GMA 7, according to Geraldine Bravo, director of Marketing and Sales for FremantleMedia, “Idol” franchise holder.“We are very fortunate to find a new partner to produce ‘Philippine Idol,’” said Bravo in an official statement sent to Inquirer Entertainment on Friday.

The first season of the reality singing contest was aired by ABC 5 last year.

ABC 5 earlier insisted that it was still “deep in discussions with Fremantle and … barring any major glitch … [we will] still mount the second season.”

Sought to comment on the new development, ABC 5, through senior vice president for Corporate Affairs Terra Daffon, said, “ABC 5 is still waiting for official word from Fremantle.”

Bravo’s formal announcement, however, sealed the deal with GMA 7. “It is our intention to make [RP ‘Idol’] the biggest show the Philippines has ever seen,” Bravo said.

According to various sources, the show’s target launch is February 2008.

An insider told the Inquirer on Wednesday that GMA 7 had bagged the show as of Tuesday night.

I think this is pretty obvious since I don't think ABC 5 has the capacity to relaunch Philippine Idol Season 2. It is also far from reality that ABS CBN will get the franchise since they already have Pinoy Dream Academy. If these plans come to reality, its a good news for Mau Marcelo since she doesn't got enough exposure on TV lately. With Philippine Idol on GMA, definitely its Mau's ticket to much greater stardom.
